Video: Ryan Adams Covers Bob Mould, “Heartbreak a Stranger”
Last night, Spoon’s Britt Daniel, members of the Hold Steady, Dave Grohl, and others performed a tribute concert for Bob Mould at LA’s Walt Disney Hall. While most artists paid their debt to Mould by mining his Hüsker Dü and Sugar catalog for cover material, Ryan Adams turned in delicate, nuanced takes on a pair of lesser-known solo tunes: 1989 Workbook cut “Heartbreak a Stranger” and the title track to 1990’s Black Sheets of Rain. It must’ve been amazing to hear his set amid the acoustics of that famed Frank Gehry-designed venue, but this decent clip (via tapenoon) of the former song will certainly do for now.
As a person who was there, I can confirm - it was amazing.
As a person who wishes he had been there, it sounds amazing.
