The Truth About The New Years Kiss
elizablr: hershapeinthedoorway:truethings: 1. Don’t fuck this up. Seriously. 2.  Make sure the person you’re kissing is memorable. This is the beginning of a new decade. We all know the world is going to end any second so kiss someone special. 3. OR go the complete opposite direction and kiss the least special, yet hottest person you can find. The ’10s are going to be sexy. 4. If your...

The perks of being born at the end of a decade I guess. Although, what with being born in ‘79 and all, and maybe not walking yet, certainly still pissing my britches, I don’t really remember anything about the end of the 70s. Truth be told, I don’t really remember much about the end of the 80s either—but I vaguely recall mostly just playing video games at that age. The...

'We Like Lists Because We Don't Want to Die'
counterforce: wolfandfox: Umberto Eco: The list is the origin of culture. It’s part of the history of art and literature. What does culture want? To make infinity comprehensible. It also wants to create order — not always, but often. And how, as a human being, does one face infinity? How does one attempt to grasp the incomprehensible? from here.

Do you have horrid, no-buying-beer-on-Sundays Blue Laws? I want to do a four-day weekend thing, and if I take Friday and Monday off that gets me two shorter weeks. I view that as better than taking a Thursday/Friday combo off (I hate Monday mornings). But is there really anything to do on a Sunday night (that would be as fun as whatever shenanigans goes down on a Thursday)?

Health Reform Subsidy Calculator -- Premium... →
Fun with calculators. Just remember to enter your age in 2013 for the House proposal and 2014 for the Senate. If the calculator is accurate all (a big “if” given that it’s estimating costs in 2013-2014 using 2009 premiums) people making in the upper 20s may want a paycut, as it can be the difference between both lower premiums and $1,600 in subsides vs $150 in subsides.
